My essays are not in the best state. I want more time to work on them. So what's the Dec 1 deadline really about? Can I send my application after the deadline? Do I definitely have to send in atleast one part of the application? If so, which part? (scores/supplement/?) Will my application be negatively recieved if I send it in later, by the Jan 1st deadline? Will it be held against me or reduce my chances significantly?

Sending the app in Dec 1st is a way to help yourself and is more of a plus than a requirement that counts against you if not fulfilled. Even if it does have a small negative effect on your chances, having your essays not be at their best is a much, much bigger deal. Try to get your essays ready by Dec 1, but if you can’t, take the extra time, try to get your app in as soon as possible, and make your essays the best they can be.*

*But not better than mine. I don’t want to get rejected. JK, JK.

Haha. But thanks a lot, that was really helpful!

My mock exams just got over (international here), I’ll try and spend this week trying to get the application ready, then! But it’s a relief to know it’s not a requirement. Thanks for all the help! :)

Do you have to submit all portions of your application at once?

What if I submit my Common App by December 1st, but submit my Harvard supplement later?

^I have heard that quite a few do that. That is basically all that they need to set up an interview.

Would it still count as having my stuff in by the priority deadline? I don’t think my supplemental essays are ready, but my Common App is good to go.

The main objective is to apply by the January 1 deadline. I don’t believe that one would receive any “additional points” by applying by December 1 or that admissions are done on a rolling basis.
