What does Rescind mean?

What does rescind mean? I see it all the time on cc.

Really! Not easier to use dictionary?

Void

Universities cancel your acceptance due to poor grades or behavior issues

In the context of college admissions, it usually means you decided to blow off your senior year after being admitted, the college has gotten your final transcript, and has sent you a notice telling you that your admission has been withdrawn and you get to tell your parents that you are staying home rather than going to college.

[Let me google that for you](<a href=“LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You”>LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You)

*Rescind *means to cancel or revoke. As drusba said, when admitted students quit working and allow their grades to drop precipitously in spring of their senior year, colleges sometimes rescind their offers of admissions. (And as Classof2015 said, sometimes colleges rescind their admissions offers because of a student’s bad conduct.)

I suspect it is partly colloquial usage and partly the fact that people will often repeat words they don’t really understand that led to the expression that’s so popular on College Confidential, “Will I get rescinded?”
