I just started taking the IB program at my school and I really want to go to Rice. However, I've heard some people say that Rice doesn't like the IB program, and you're less likely to get in if you take IB. Is this true? Please help since if I want to change into AP, I'd have to transfer to an entirely new school without the IB program, since my school won't let me just change from IB into AP...Thanks!

Rice, like any selective school, wants to see you take the most challenging courses available. IB is definitely challenging and well respected. You will be fine, in terms of admissions, by proceeding through the IB program. Just do your best.

I know plenty of people at Rice who did IB- don’t worry about it. Just make sure you do well in those classes, and you’ll be fine in that regard.

Rice is very pro IB…in fact they have had many teacher trainings for high school IB teachers held at Rice. My son graduated with the full IB diploma 2 years ago and Rice offered him at very generous scholarship. He loves Rice. In fact they accepted so many of his AP and IB classes that he will graduate in 3 years at Rice.

Rice considers the IB program to be extremely academically rigorous. Rice is also fairly generous with IB credit, especially in the sciences–it can be used to fulfill distribution requirements.

As a current Rice student, I can confirm that IB credit is very much accepted and encouraged. Actually, I think, there are more people here who have taken IB than AP (based on my observation, not official data.)
