proficiency sounds a bit vague to me to describe the language ability. How well do you have to know the language to pass the proficiency? Are they talking about being fluent? The thing is that I already speak two foreign languages but I was thinking about using my third, French towards my language requirement. I am in French 201 as of freshman year, and I dont speak it as well as the other, Russian. do you think I should still give it a try?

The language requirement used to be a half hour do or die oral examination taken after completing the highest advanced or a first literature course in the language with two or three professors that could derail one’s even getting a degree. The requirement as I understand it now, gives more options-completing courses in the language abroad on a foreign study program, for example. Check the catalog or perhaps, a current student will respond.
