Hey, does any know things about Stage Management? What kind of applicants does a Stage Management MFA program want, especially great programs such as Yale and Columbia? I’m an undergraduate student and want to know how to access a Stage Management MFA directly from college. What kind of experience or abilities do the program’s look for? How many shows should I manage? Should I learn things like design by myself? Thanks for reply!
You should try to get some experience in college doing stage management, if not within a theater BFA program then through student-directed theater, community theater or apprentice/internships at nearby professional theaters. I don’t think an MFA is necessary to start working in stage management. You should just start working at whatever level you can. Also my son’s program had a stage management class that was open to non-majors, so you might want to look into something like that.
