Unfortunately my son has not been able to visit Rice yet. Does anyone know what the campus is like? My racquetball buddy said it was very "concrete-like." I hope that is not so; maybe he didn't see the whole campus.

it’s about as far from “concrete-like” as you can get. Check out the video tours on line - they are very good:

A lot of trees, especially on the perimeters, some vast open grassy areas (but very neatly defined between buildings and walkways), very attractive buildings. It’s really a beautiful campus in most ways.

I see MSmom beat me to it! It’s a great way to see what the campus looks like.

The virtual tours are truly helpful and you might also want to look at bloggers’ impressions of the very pretty campus [TY Sports: Travels with Tina: Rice is quite nice!](http://tysports.blogspot.com/2008/09/travels-with-tina-rice-is-quite-nice.html) and the “travelogue” thread posted not too long ago.

In 3D, it feels so relaxed and inviting.

Thank you so much! I do remember hearing it was quite green and the every photo I’ve ever seen of Rice has been quite pretty. It’s just when someone has actually been there, I thought I might have gotten a misrepesentation. Thanks to all!

The “concretey” part is the tail-end nearest the football stadium, where most of the parking is; it’s the skinniest part of the campus. The rest is lovely and green and lush. The campus is an interesting shape… Check a map and you’ll see!

DS really liked the campus, and that’s saying a lot since we’re from a beautiful part of the country! He especially liked the oak trees overhanging the streets. He’s mentioned the campus a couple of times since our visit.

I’ve been to Rice 3 times before, and never did I get a “concretey” feel.

BTW, I spent 3 weeks at Rice this past summer doing an internship, and going through the Virtual Tour brought me back. I really liked the 360 view of the tour and the many pictures. Can’t wait till March!!
