Among your friends, in the job market, as to respect, etc?

One funny thing that happened to me, is I wore a Princeton shirt to a poker tournament and everyone was intimidated...it was great, and i walked away up $200.

AHAHAHHA.

When I wear my Princeton sweatshirt to school, my classmates always go, "Woah. Does wearing that shirt make you feel better about yourself? Does it put more pressure on you? Why do you bother wearing something that gets your hopes up, only to have them crushed?"

I always respond with, "Some people like to display their skin or their boxers. I like to display my ambitions."

Sorta unrelated..but I thought I might share. :)

haha. i was just at princeton, but most of my relatives were *** u will be the poorest kid at Princeton!

anywya, yeah, i love sporting my shirt. Princeton is my #1 choice.

I got one of my first jobs after taking time off for kids precisely because of my Princeton diploma. It has been at every turn a benefit to me.

I refused to wear any college shirts before i got into any. I didn't want to make a fool of myself. I think its sort of an unwritten rule at my school. But now I can sport my Princeton ;)

I don't even have a college shirt yet :p

People actually buy college shirts before they get accepted? ... the hell?

Well as a high school student...
1) I got lotsa "You're not paying attention in class? And you are going to PRINCETON?"
2) People (friends, teachers) like to bring it up a lot when meeting other people, as if they know "a princeton student"
3) People are really impressed, automatically assume you are very qualified for anything.

My brother's experience was very good. When searching for summer internships for investment banking, the Princeton name really did well and helped him and his friends get many sought after summer internships. His Columbia MBA interviewer was a Princeton graduate.

Yeah my name has pretty much become philhesgoingtoprinceton. i'm considering having it legally changed ;)

People really are impressed by Princeton. In fact, where I'm at, people are even more impressed when they find out I'm going to Princeton than when they find out a friend of mine is going to Yale. A couple around here every couple of years go to H and Y, but practically no one goes to P...so it's awesome. Don't have to share the limelight with anyone else :p

Phil - I totally agree. Same response from people - same name. Haha

I'm working fast food and retail for the summer, and whenever they find out where I'm going to college, they mostly say "What are you doing here, then?!"

Smart girls gotta earn their cash too!

And my dad will NEVER fail to bring up that I'm going to Princeton in any conversation with his coworkers, friends, family, store clerks, the mailman.... It kinda gets annoying (though I understand that he's proud, since he didn't finish college).

oh wow the limelight here is bursting with HYP.

7 harvards over the past three years (dont remember before)
4 yales over the past two years (dont remember before)
3 princetons this year (though none in previous 2 years)

and my rival HS has NINE coming to princeton this upcoming fall.

i just guess greatness here is simply an expectation.

nevertheless it puts "wow's" in peoples faces. especially at parties, theyre like "WHOA YOU'RE GOING TO PRINCETON" the only negative i find is that it tends to kill conversations and i cant help but feel like im bragging when someone asks me where im going to college.

Try, "Rockefeller College - it's a small place in New Jersey."

haha id love to live in rocky

Yea, that happens. =P

I thought the same thing.

hehe anonymous, im the same. when people ask where you are going to school i dont like to go down that path of discussion for too long cuz it sounds arrogant =P

Some people in my school bought shirts from every college they visited. And there are freshmen sporting college shirts.
The old dress code used to be that you couldn't wear shirts with words on them unless they were college names.
That's what you get from prep school?

I have a Princeton sweatshirt and t-shirt but there is so much more that I want to get. I already have my PUstore membership and I can't wait to hit the Ustore :p

someone said it above but I hear it all the time too. You make a silly mistake and ppl are like "And you got into Princeton??? DAMN, maybe i should apply"

I always say "Yeah, you should...you're a lot smarter than me so you are a lock for admission"

I always say "Yeah, you should...you're a lot smarter than me so you are a lock for admission"*

Get on their cases with a barrage of questions, like

"DID YOU HAVE A GOOD SAT SCORE?!?!"
"WHAT ABOUT SAT II?!?!"
"ANY EC'S?!?!"
"CAN YOU WRITE A GOOD ESSAY!?!?!"

Yeah having nice things really does tend to end conversations. If you go to a good college, have great SAT scores, or drive a luxury car it's impossible to talk about it without sounding like a jerk. I can't even mention that I hope to go to Yale or Princeton without people giving dirty looks or saying "wow ur so smart".
