What does the name Princeton do?

You know....Princeton used to be called "The College of New Jersey"

That ones not a conversation killer ;)

People were talking about buying clothing when they visited colleges -- the only thing we bought out of all the visits (and there were a bunch) was a Princeton water bottle. I like to think that thats the reason I got, so my advice to all people applying: BUY PRINCETON WATER BOTTLES!

...and wait till you get in to flaunt the clothing.

lol

i went to the Ustore and bought a few Tshirts. HELL YES im gonna flaunt it. and im gonna live it up and hopefully get accepted.

jk. :p

With all the talk about Princeton clothing and the PU Store I have a recommendation.

Keep in mind that once you get on campus you will get a lot of free shirts and other free stuff. When you walk in the Pre-rade you will get a free T-shirt to wear. Your residential college will give you a free shirt or something else. Many ECs have free stuff. Every time there is a big on-campus event they give out free T-shirts to get students excited. You could practically have a whole wardrobe of free Princeton t-shirts. ;)

lol tigertigertiger, funny thing is, I bought a Yale water bottle but it was the only school I got rejected from. I guess it all turned out ok! (I didn't buy any princeton clothing but I did get the campus planner and had it with me everyday...it drove me crazy at times...ahem deferral but I love it now)

HAHAH!! that crazy... Im not going to Princeton, but even then peopel find ways to still bring up the fact that I was admitted. Its fun sometimes, and others really embarassing, cuz they go "so You're the genius that got in everywehre!" and i just kinda smile like .. I wouldnt say genius.

You def SHOULDNT buy memorobilia from a school unless you get in or your parents went their. Imagine how terrible you would feel if you didnt get in! Also, you dont want to be reminded of impending possible doom when you wear the clothing.

Yeah, I was definitely superstitious about the whole shirt-wearing thing. Luckily I had zero Princeton paraphernelia before I got in (although I will admit that I decked my room out in orange and black and did other color changes in my lifestyle to reflect my intense desire to get in, heh). I didn't even visit P until Feb after I got in, so you'd better believe my family and I went crazy when we bought stuff. My room is practically a Princeton shrine now.

Please excuse me while I go bleed my orange and black now ;)

Heh, my high school actually had a specific day seniors were supposed to wear college t-shirts. Some of my classmates like to wear t-shirts from some of the more prestigious colleges...how shall I say this?...ironically. Like the ditzy, shallow girl who wears the Harvard t-shirt. Or my super-slacker (and proud of it) friend who wears a CalTech t-shirt. Or the second-year senior who wears the MIT t-shirt. Or...well, you get the idea. Everyone thought it was weird that I was wearing a t-shirt for a college I actually got accepted into...

You shoulda worn one for the local community college!

i'll second what nopoisonivy said, that store on nassau st has a bunch of stuff different from what the u store has and is worth checking out.

Its incredible what a college name will do. I went to a party of a local private university, and a friend of mine introduced me to a guy who was majoring in physics. I told him I might study physics also, and since this university is the best for the sciences in my country, he automatically assumed i was going to attend it. I dont like to talk about my academic Achievements in a party (I really like to dance) but this guy was a total jerk. He was telling me how intelligent he was, and asked me if I was good at math, I told him I liked math a lot and that when you like something it makes it easier. He told me he could teach me when ever I wanted because he was a genius, and told me all these stories about the many times he had corrected his professor. I told him it wouldnt be possible for him to help me in math because i wasnt going to attend his college, because I was admitted into Princeton, and other colleges. It was a great pleasure to see his face (it was like if somebody had stabbed him in the stomache) , he has never spoken to me since.

i tend to disagree about wearing college clothing when you are not actually admitted or attending that college...i think it's fairly harmless. in my case, i bought a penn tshirt and even after i decided to attend harvard over penn, i still wear it. most people who wear shirts for harvard or the ivies didn't or don't actually attend. i just liked the penn shirt, and it's comfortable. it doesn't have to be so complicated.

unctuous, its different if you actually get accepted. i think that wearing the t-shirt before you get accepted is bad karma.

Yeah seriously, if you wear a shirt for a school thats good at sports no one thinks twice about it. How often have you seen someone wearing a Duke or UNC shirt? Did you think he was pretentious for wearing a t-shirt for a college he wasn't going to? Most likely not. So why is it any different for Princeton and Harvard?

But I don't wanna sound like I'm preaching. I don't wear my Yale shirt too often because people always give you those looks plus I don't wanna jinx myself. Just another example of how America thinks the ivies and those that attend them are automatically better than everyone else.

its bad karma! i dont care what other people think--its just that I think being rejected would be even more demoralizing if someone had been traipsing around with the logo of the school that rejected him emblazoned on his chest....

I am sorry, when I see a Harvard or Princeton or Yale **** for that matter, I am not impressed after seeing the shanagons that goes on with these places. For example, 3 from my school got into Princeton for nothing besides for athletics and sports, nothing for academics. Our valedict nor salud got into these places. 2 of the 3 got into no other ivy leagues and the other was cross-recruited with Princeton and Yale for lax.

When applying for a high-powered job, a Princeton degree will get you an interview with a Stanford grad.

KIDDING! :)

Stanford grads are pretty smart. They know a good school when they see it. Princeton is well-respected around here.
