what does this letter mean?

Hi, I need advice on what this letter means. I have already been accepted and have gotten a 10,000 sholarship. Just today, I recieved a letter from the science department to apply for the honors program. Is this a big deal that they invitied me to do so, or is this given to everyone who gets in and is majoring in the sciences? Thanks. Oh and is it very selective??

A small number of students who expect to major in the science field are invited to apply to the “Freshmen Science Honors Program” (FSH). This program is one of SC’s honors programs and is by invitation. It will help provide you with a strong foundation in the sciences and scientific research. You and other like minded students will be offered opportunities for special events, small science labs and personalized academic support.

Freshmen Science Honors Program is not offered to all freshmen. It is considered an honor to be selected. I am not certain of the number who were in the program last year, but I am guessing it was 50-60.

Oh, I see. Thanks. Do you know how many people are invited?

There is some info on the program here: [Freshman Science Honors > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences](http://dornsife.usc.edu/freshman-science-honors)

Is this a big deal that they invitied me to do so?
YES! accept the invitation!
Oh and is it very selective??
YES.
Freshman Honors science classes average about 40 students in size, instead of around 200. The labs sizes are smaller too and the best profs teach the classes.
