ACT will be closed December 2225 and December 29January 1. You may submit ASR requests during this time, but no requests will be processed on the days that ACT is closed.
insertnamehere (and anyone else worried about the ASR message and getting score reports to colleges on time),

Here's some advice based on what I've gathered about the amount of time it takes score reports to get sent (this is based on what student's say they've done and what they say ACT has told them when they ask if their scores have gone out yet):

The quickest way to get your score reports to colleges is to order them over the phone. However, this is only allowed for expedited (priority) reports, which cost extra and aren't even used by many colleges because they come in the mail and the colleges may get their regular reports electronically (they also get a regular report on the regular schedule, and they do use that), PLUS there's a $10 service fee for the phone call.

If you order your score reports on the web, make sure you enter your identifying information correctly. Look at your last name, date of birth, SSN/ACT ID, test date, and test type as they appear on your score report or on the online scores site for THIS test date (or the test date you are ordering scores for). Enter that exact information, EVEN IF IT IS WRONG. The only exception to this rule is if you have already called ACT Records to correct that information for this test date, and they confirmed the correction over the phone. If you have punctuation in your last name, pay attention to how it shows up on your score report and use that. If you're uncertain about this information and want to check on it, or want to correct it before you send score reports, call ACT Records at 319-337-1313. Then use the information they give you or the corrected information you give them to order your score reports online. (Note: If you haven't gotten your scores online yet, make sure you print them out or save the html file when you get them, because you have to pay again if you need to look at them again.) If you aren't sure about your test type, 99% of the time it is NATIONAL. If you registered in advance and used an admission ticket, tested standby, OR saw your scores online, your test type is NATIONAL. You probably know if your test type is not national because you had to make special testing arrangements or tested outside the US. The mandatory April/May test in CO and IL is STATE testing.

There's a space on the online score order form to enter an SSN correction or change your ACT ID to an SSN (like if you want your SSN on your score reports so colleges can more easily match them to your application). Don't use this! If you really need to do this, call ACT Records and make the change over the phone, THEN order your score reports online using the new SSN you gave them.

When you submit the online order form, you should get a confirmation page. Print this out (bookmarking it doesn't work). You should also get a confirmation email (check your junk mailbox). If you don't get both, or if you have any technical problems while using the form, call ACT Records the next day they're open to make sure they got your order (they won't be able to tell you the same day). You can also find out if your score reports have been sent yet. Regular reports are sent Monday and Wednesday nights and schools that get electronic reports normally pick them up the next morning. So if you order by around 5 pm central time on Monday, the school could get it Tuesday morning. You can check with the school to find out if they get electronic scores and on what schedule.

DON'T order any reports for an "uncoded institution", where you have to enter the address where you want it sent; if you need to do this, do it on a different order, separate from your other reports (submit a new form).

Don't try to order score reports before your scores are available online (or you get them in the mail), or before your writing scores are available if you took writing. It won't work.

If you're considering paying extra for priority reports, check with the school first to make sure they're accepted and that you need to do so to get your scores there on time. I bet 90% of the time this is a waste of money.

If you follow this advice, you can avoid many score delays. There may still be some slight delay due to the holidays, but this will move you to the front of the line.

thank you so much for that information Mrs. Ferguson!
