I am trying to declare media studies. On the declaring page, they say:
You must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in courses applicable to the major. This includes lower division prerequisite and methods courses, upper division electives and the equivalency of transferred course work.
what does this mean? They only count gpa from prerequisites or every class you have taken?
Thank you very much!

It means that the classes listed on the Media Studies courses meaning prereqs like History 7B, any upper divs like MC 101 or whatever’s under that elective list, and any methods course. The GPA only considers what you’ve done for the major. For example, if you took Math 54, the course doesn’t get credit for the MS major, so it wouldn’t be considered. The GPA is considering what courses that can get credit for the major including transfer courses that have equivalents at Cal.

does this hold true for all capped majors?

Check department websites…

donde ?

Ever heard of google?

Go here: [L&S Major - Capped Majors](http://ls-major.berkeley.edu/capped.html)

Usually go to undergraduate admissions and they should something about what they consider for GPAs. I assume you’re talking about L&S capped majors. Other than that, google for it or email the department contacts.

When’s the latest to declare a major?

It would help if you were more specific such as what major you wanted to declare or even what college you were in. Usually, it’s before you’ve completed 60 units at Cal that you declare a major.

I’m not sure yet. I’m interested in Public health. i emailed the admissions person.

sparetire is wrong.

Most people declare the beginning of their junior year.

You should declare before the semester you complete 85 units

^ Should? ok.So it’s not a must.
I’m actually in CoC right now. considering transferring to CNR next semester. l&s is my other option

Ok here is the story about 85 units.

Ignoring CC units and summer school units, the semester that you are going to reach/surpass 85 units, they will regblock you if you are not declared to a major.

Their are certain majors that declaring early doesn’t do you much and there are some that do.

Examples:
Majors where declaring doesn’t really matter
-Greek, Latin, and Classical Languages - no Classics classes have seats categorized for any specific majors
-MCB - the only MCB classes that have seats categorized for the major are the lab courses

Majors where declaring does really matter
-IB - IB reserves seats for IB majors in classes; if you don’t phase 1 a class (or can’t phase 1 the class) you will get waitlisted because the open seating seats will be filled.
-Poli Sci - PS keeps non-PS majors from phase 1’ing non-PS majors
