I was contacted by a Cornell alumnus in my area who said that he was contacting me because of my legacy (grandpa went there, great-grandpa got his PhD there) and the fact that Cornell had sent him my name and contact information and he wanted to meet with me sometime and have a conversation about Cornell. He specified that this was not an interview and we would just talk about Cornell, my interests, et cetera. I know Cornell doesn't offer undergraduate admissions interviews. So I was just wondering two things, what does this mean and what can I expect? Is this a common thing, to be contacted by a representative for a pseudo-interview or whatever you would call it? Does it mean anything good or bad about my application? Will it have any impact on my application? What should I expect and how should I prepare? Thanks!

Schools like to nurture relationships with legacies, especially in a multi-generational legacy situation like yours. This is likely that, nothing more. It’s not a bad sign, but I would not presume that it provides any indication about what your application decision might ultimately be.

Thank you! I read something else on another forum that this is pretty common so I’m not as worried, I just didn’t know what to expect. And I definitely won’t let myself get cocky about it, it’s my dream to get in and I would be extremely lucky to get that opportunity.
