what does this short answer question mean?

Rochester students represent many different points of view. Each student constructs an independent study and research plan. Describe what you will contribute to Rochester's diversity of ideas, experiences, and identities. If you can, incorporate a positive past experience where you chose your own learning path, or a negative experience where you wanted to exercise more independence.

how do answer this question when i know im probably not going to do an independent study. how does the independent study correlate with bring diversity of ideas to the school. I just need a little clarification on this question?

Most students pursue their own course of study with the cluster system in the broad sense. There are also many opportunities to pursue academic interests outside your chosen course of study like take-5. I have friends who are bio majors doubling in religion or classics. The question is simply asking what diverse experiences/background do you have and how might you incorporate them into your academic experience. I vaguely remember writing about my creative writing and Indian background and how I planned on incorporating into my comp sci studies. if you want more clarification drop me a pm.
