<p>I got my letter saying I’m a Trustee Scholar today!</p>
<p>saccolicious, where are you from? what state? I live in FL and Im hoping to get one…</p>
<p>D is hoping for Trustee Scholarship too! We’re in MA and probably would have been notified by now. Sad :(</p>
<p>Mass, and it was so surprising cause I thought my essay was absolutely terrible!</p>
<p>^ So pretentious. >_></p>
<p>thank you grayareagirl…if only you knew me</p>
<p>You misspelled pretentious in your username.</p>
<p>GrayAreaGirl, no need to be so judgmental!</p>
<p>And CONGRATS to saccolicious. I’m an applicant, too, and I hope to hear back from them soon! :D</p>
<p>Congrats saccolicious! I got my letter today too. Though I’m in the northeast as well, so maybe if they sent them on the same day those living further away will receive theirs later. Who knows?</p>
<p>Saccolicious = joke.</p>
<p>BU Guru - Would you mind if I PM you with some questions about the Trustee Scholarship? My son has been offered the award, and we are a little shocked.</p>
<p>How are you notified if you are a recipient</p>
<p>Wasn’t lilcoons1995 banned from CC a while back?</p>
<p>Have you duly served your time, lilcoons? I trust you’ve turned your ways around finally.</p>
<p>You would probably have got a notification of getting the trustee scholarship a day or 2 ago in the mail.</p>
<h2>You would probably have got a notification of getting the trustee scholarship a day or 2 ago in the mail. </h2>
<p>Yeah, it also says it on the website under Merit Scholarships or something… there would be a letter there if you got it.</p>
<p>Congratulations to those who got the Trustees! Would you post your stats? It would be very helpful to juniors in HS who are thinking about applying to BU next year to see the stats of those selected (and hopefully they will still have the Trustees next year). Thanks.</p>
<p>Sure =)</p>
<p>Copied from the UChicago board, as I’m too lazy to retype the whole thing xD</p>
<p>Decision: ACCEPTED </p>
<p>Stats:
SAT I (by section): M 750 CR 750 W 740 (1500/2240) Took them once, in the middle of AP week and right after opening night for my show. Probably could have done better, but didn’t want to give those thieves at ETS any more of my money =)
(also National Merit Finalist, nominee to apply for Presidential Scholar)
SAT IIs: Bio 780 Math II 770 US History 750
ACT: 35 cumulative, 36 on math/science, something between 35-33 for the rest
APs: USH, both Econs, all 5s. Taking Euro, Spanish Lit, Calc BC for classes and exams, and English ones, just exams
IBs: N/a
GPA: 3.77 uw
Rank: probably 15% strictly in terms of GPA, but my schedule was probably the most rigorous out of my class
Other stats: None?</p>
<p>Subjective:
ECs listed on app: Head of current events group for past year, member of STAND, Improv group, lots of drama/theatre/voice (a handful of medium to big roles), Science Bowl, Stock Market Club, and lots of community service - over 600 hours, most of which was spent in mentor/tutor-like positions. I got the Presidential Gold award for that. Also got an award for ‘civil service’.
Job/Work Experience: … just turned 16, so basically babysitting, working at the school bookstore, and whatever other oddjobs I could find. Also had an internship with a local politician for 2 weeks.
Essays (subject and responses): my common app one was about teaching CCD even though I’m not really religious… basically tolerance and such. I also recall gushing about my favorite works of literature.
Teacher Recs: Reeeeeeally good one from my advisor, others from econ/bio teachers that I’m sure were fairly good but know little about (I’ve read /none/ of them…)
Counselor Rec: Probably very good; the college counselors at our school are amazing
Hook (if any): Umm… my age? I’m pretty vanilla</p>
<p>Location/Person:
State or Country: USA/Northeast
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Competitive, elite boarding school (top 20 I think… definitely top 30 if not that)
Ethnicity: European-American
Gender: Female. Woot. </p>
<p>Just to add about the scholarship - like I’ve said to others, I think it was really the essays (and maybe recs) that did it for me. As you’ll notice, many of my stats are below average for the scholarship… this and the letter I received leads me to believe that the way I presented myself in the essays was a big factor. If you show your genuine self in the essay, I think you’ll go a lot further than you would have by simply saying what you think they want to hear. It also helps to speak well of the school and to show how grateful you would be for the scholarship/how you would use the opportunity to the benefit of the world around you, as well as to your own benefit.</p>
<p>Anyway, I hope that helps. Good luck to all of you who apply next year!</p>
<p>Just a question for the current BU students/trustee scholars that may be lurking around/participating in this board: how hard /is/ it to maintain a 3.5 GPA? As in, would I be able to have a life if I had a normal courseload? Would it even be possible to get a 3.5? (I’ve heard there’s pretty big grade deflation at BU so I’m a little concerned…) Thanks!</p>
<p>You can definitely have a normal life and not stress too much about that 3.5. It’s not insanely difficult for most people who have been selected as Trustees to maintain the scholarship I would think. For example, I got a 3.78 last semester.
Good luck on your decision!</p>
<p>Any current Trustee’s, could you tell me more about the program and whether you enjoy being at BU as a Trustee scholar? I’m debating between schools right now (mostly WashU, UChic, and BU).</p>
<p>I personally like the trustee program and am glad I chose BU. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.</p>
