What does Williams look for in a CommonApp essay?

Does anyone know anything about Misha Garg, the admissions counselor for CT and international students? I’m specifically asking what she likes to see in a CommonApp essay. Does she prefer things that show emotion or things without emotion? I found out the hard way that Yale has a reputation for rejecting anyone with an emotionally charged CommonApp essay, even if it shows grit. I’m hoping to avoid this mistake for RD, and since Williams was also my #1 (I couldn’t decide between Yale and Williams, but Yale had EA and Williams had ED so I applied to Yale), I’m especially nervous. A prompt response is certainly appreciated.

I think you should write what best expresses who you are and have fun writing the essay. Then your essay will sound and be genuine.

It doesn’t work that way, @bluenette23 . You can’t “game” it like that. And as for that Yale “reputation” you “found out the hard way,” well, it’s nonsense. I’ve known many kids who were admitted to Yale with very emotionally charged essays.
