What does your basic day of college consist of?

My first semester I had classes MWF 8 AM- 2:25. I think I had a couple of breaks because one of my classes was only MWF because there was a lab Friday, so that gave me some extra time, and I had a break for lunch. It was still a long day, though :(

Last semester I had classes 9:05-2:55 MW, and then Fridays I got out at 12:10. I also had a radio show that I did for three hours one day.

I worked a part-time job throughout that year, so I would work either at night or on my days off from school.

You’ll do fine, just try not to get overwhelmed. The classes were really interesting- well, most of them- and it made taking the basic classes like history really fun. You learn SO much more than you do in high school. Some of it’s easier than you expect and some of it’s harder than you could have ever imagined, but you can pull through! Even when you have “easier” schedules try not to get carried away with free time and an easier work load because it’s still important to pass every class, so don’t start slipping just because school life seems easier. Don’t panic about freshman year! It’s a good first semester schedule. Enjoy your first year, and I hope you do well!

I have an 8 am Tu/Tr class and I commute, so I’m up by 6. I’m a Computer Science major and I don’t have much homework by way of studying and written assignments, but I have plenty of projects that take up time outside of class. Also, in my major, if you don’t learn outside of class through your own motivation, you won’t get a job.

Aside from that, I work about 30 to 35 hours a week as a software developer. I make decent money, enough so that I sometimes think of myself as a worker first and a student second.

I only get a bit of time to relax during the day, but I’m OK with that. I lead a much more “mature” life, in the sense of having the workplace and financial responsibility, than many posters here, so my college life isn’t the norm.

^ Indeed you do life a much more mature life but who ever expected kids to grow up at age 20?

In College I usually woke up at 6:00-7:00 am.
Got ready for class on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, Work on Tuesday/Thursday.
Took 14-17 Credit Hours along with Part Time work.
Running, Weightlifting, Tennis, Exercise.
Try to average a 3.5 GPA last 2 years.

Mostly on the weekdays I would be working and/or studying combined with exercise. I didn’t have time for much else. On the weekends I would always try to go out with the group of friends I have at school and I could always make time unless I had multiple exams the next week.

A roughly normal day in my life freshman year, Monday through Thursday:

Wake up at either 8:45 or 10:00, depending on the day.
Class for three hours.
Come back and chill.
Get dinner.
Come back and do homework.
Watch some TV
Sleep

This year’s going to be even better.

Go for a run/shower (if the weather’s nice): 7-8AM
Class: 9AM-3PMish
Work/homework: 3-7PM
Extra time?:7-11:30PM

Hmm. Last year it wasn’t as crazy as I expect this year to be, but it was something like this.

M/W
Get up at around 8 or so. Finish whatever homework I didn’t finish the night before, check my e-mail/facebook/myspace/livejournal, e.t.c., shower, eat and leave the dorm around 9:30.

Go to the computer lab before classes and print out whatever assignments, etc, need to be turned in that day (free printing, so there’s no need to do it from my laptop.

Class from 10:20-11:15.

Eat lunch, work on homework, etc (waste time in computer lab) until next class.

Class from 2:20-3:45.

Sometimes I would work from 5-10, depending on my schedule. If I did then most times I would just waste time online or whatever until I went to bed.

Tuesday/Thursdays

typically work from 6am-12noon, eat lunch, finish homework, go to print out stuff for the day, etc.

Classes from 2:20-5:45.

After, dinner with best friend, hanging out with friends, homework, etc.

Weekends were different. Friday I only had one class from 10:20-11:15. Then I worked from 2-10.

Saturday and Sunday I would work 6am-2pm. After that, homework, time with friends, whatever.

This semester I’m taking 18 hours as opposed to 12, so I don’t expect to work except for the weekend and am not sure what my week will look like!

Hope this helps.

Monday-Wednesday:

Wake up
Eat
Class
Sports
Homework
Sleep

Thurs-Sun:
Wake up
Class
Eat
Sports
Drink
Drink
Drink
Sports
Wake Up
Homework

The average Monday last semester:

Wake up around 10, stretch, shower, brush teef, then get dressed and walk to the points place (Marche) and possibly grab a bagel with my friend, if not that then just eat a spoonful of peanut butter and a banana, and drink some water. Then walk across campus to WaBermann and boogie into African history and try not to make eye contact with the professor who yells into any one’s face who does (not in a menacing way, that’s just how he operated). Try to stay awake through that class, then go across the green to American Politics and sit next to a couple chatty girls who really were great, and also sit next to a girl who had an unhealthy obsession with clowns (and drawing clowns). Then leave that class and walk back across the green and go to 20th cent. german culture, which was a great class. Then walk back towards home but stop in the dc to put in a few hours at work study, then either grab dinner there or go back home and coordinate with other people to get dinner together. After that just hang out, do homework if I have any, and keep busy.

That was the average day.

You will have a whole lot more time unstructured time that you were probably used to during your high school years. Not knowing how to properly manage this time has fricked up the lives of many woulda/coulda/shoulda-been successful people.

I can’t stress that enough - I speak from experience.

“You have a lot more free time than you expect freshman year, unfortunately some students arent ready when their classes ramp up soph year.”

I’ll be a sophomore this fall  Hopefully I’ll survive

Eating bagels. & having hot sex

BAGELS!^^^

thanks, bro! i had to read 3 pages of this thread before i hit anyone who’s “basic day of college” had anything with the word SEX in it. congrats!!!

and to those out there in internet-land who are christians in the traditional sense: please take note of this. most kids in college today aren’t out looking to have pre-marital sex asap.

and to those virgins out there in internet-land: don’t worry that you haven’t lost your v-card! most of us don’t include the word “sex” in a poll on what our basic college days consist of.

that said… my basic college day consists of sitting in my morning class having had sex for the previous .5-1 hour w/my boy who insists that the best part of waking up is not folgers in my cup.

And that is why my senior year was great…half my day was free periods, so I got good at doing stuff then and never having to do anything at home. Especially projects.

I’ll be used to classes…I’m taking 17 credits first semester, and 16 second. Then as a soph it’ll be 16 credits each semester. I don’t get to be one of those freshmen who only take 12 credits.

My question is… your chem class? It’s General, Bio and Organic for a 101 class? o.O But 14 credits is great. Trust me. Tons of time. I made the mistake of taking morning, afternoon and night classes last semester literally I had a 8:00am-9:15pm day @_@ Not a good idea at all.

Next semester my classes are like ours (sophomore year)

Applied Ethics
Applied Chemistry for BME (Gen, Organic and Bio. But we’re just doing Organic and Bio)
Calculus III
Beginning Piano
Writing for Engineers
Physiological Processes

My university has a course like that; it’s a two-semester chemistry course sequence designed for nursing and other allied health sciences…but it’s not CH 101. Maybe it’s different at the OP’s school.

Last semester, I would get up at around 9, go to class at 9:30. I wouled exercise from 9:30-10:30 and then have lunch/go to class (depending on the day). The afternoon/evening would mostly be spent in the library (with dinner break). I would leave the library anytime between 12:00AM - 2:00AM

Not to start a competition here but my credits per semester have gone 18, 19.5, 21, 23, and next semester either 22.5 or 25.5.
