Yeah, I called and they said that an indicator of preliminary review being completed means that they have all the things that they need but the committee has not acted upon it yet.

Mine says that it is currently being reviewed. Is this good, bad, or neutral? It seems that many others have gotten their decisions so I feel a little late in the game. They also took off the MidY report, right when I got my grades. --;

Wth...there's noway they haven't reviewed so many of the applications if that's what "prelim review is completed" means. It's like already February!! and they basically only have a month to look at the rest of the applications...

okay im confused. if it says: We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/MDYResponse, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st.

then does that mean a rejection, acceptance, deferral/request of mid yr report or application still hasn't even be reviewed yet?
it says that was updated on january 6th! and i still haven't received anything!

Good to find out im not the only person USC has been reviewing since January 19th. Seriously 11 days is way too long.

^^ bynumTHEbeast a reference to andrew bynum, perhaps?

rainmama: Thanks a lot for the info! I suspected that SCA is somewhat slower... I'm a SCA applicant as well. Good luck to your son!

^^ Thanks awelex! Good luck to you too; I know it's hard to sit by while this avalanche of admissions comes down, but you know it will be worth it if you get into SCA. What was your first choice major?

(Oh, I forgot to mention in the earlier post that your second choice major department doesn't see your application at all until the first choice one has passed you over.)

rainmama: my first choice is Production. My chances are really slim, though, as I'm not the typical candidate. But who knows, maybe it's an advantage... Your S applied to Critical Studies, right?

@rainmama
if i'm applying to the md/bacclaureate program, could that be what's holding up my application (it's a special program that's part of the school of arts and sciences). btw my current status is "reviewing"

molliemeow: yea its a reference to andrew bynum the currently injured man beast on the la lakers

awelex - Yes, S applied to Critical Studies. He really wanted to go for Production too, but didn't feel he had a creative portfolio that would withstand the tough competition. And doing two different CSA applications was just a bit much at the time :) I think being an atypical candidate could help you, by the way. And let's face it - it's a long shot for anyone. Isn't it harder than getting into Harvard? Think what bragging rights you'll have!

DukeBD - Based on what admissions told me, I would guess your major is one that could take quite a long time. We didn't talk specifically about that program, but the review is definitely different and more involved. I haven't seen anyone report acceptance to BacMD, have you? Stay positive, and good luck!

im so frustrated.
my status has said "preliminary review" since december 18!

@ jhuscla: me too. ARHGHGH, and i sent my application in all the way back in early november.

To go along with the previous posts...What does it mean if I've been in preliminary review since mid-December?

It doesn't mean anything; it just means that your application file has everything but it hasn't been acted on by the committee yet or so the woman said over the phone when I called.

so my status is
" Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.
Status last updated: 1/29/2008 4:37:20 AM "

any insight as to what that means?
do yall think there's a second wave of acceptances coming out soon?

my brother was admitted to the bac md program last year and he did not find out until april. & he was accepted into the school this time last year. dukeBD i am thinking you wont find out until april!

My status says this
"We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application"

Whereas some applicants have the following status
"Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th'

What is the difference between the two statements. I know the second one goes furthur and says that their decisions will be mailed by April 1st. But why doesnt the first one mention when we will get our decisions or anything like that?
Could it mean that we could get our decisons earlier?

aj16- From my experience, the status you have is the first possible status, the one that comes before "we have completed a preliminary review." The second one, "Your application is being reviewed..." is the second to last, the one before "The admission committee has acted on a decision..." or something along those lines. So from what I've seen so far, it doesn't mean you will get your decisions earlier.

By the way, did you apply for the non-scholarship deadline?
