"What don't you know" question

Do you guys think doing something as radical as simply listing some of the infinite things I don’t know (ranging from serious to funny) and then summarizing and maybe getting a little more theoretical would be a bad idea? Should I just write a full essay instead? They already have my full essay for the main portion of the common app. as well as a supplementary essay I wrote on my own.

I feel like if I were to do this at any school, Brown would be the one most likely to appreciate it. But too risky?

While I am a proponent of writing risky and different essays, I feel that by simply making a list kind of defeats the whole purpose of the essay. While it is important to be unique, it is also important to showcase your writing skills and your depth of thought through the essay.

This all completely depends on how you write your “list”. There’s an essay you’ll find in one of those books about essays that got you into Harvard, about a kid who was asked to write 3 adjectives to describe himself/herself. This turned into quite a nice essay and in the end, you, the reader, realizes there were plenty more than just 3 adjectives used.

So, it all depends on your essay. If it’s just a list…boring. But, if you have fun with it, go for it. The adcoms would like it too.

hey, could one of you please chance me?
