I would definitely say Korean International students, and to an extent, African Americans. When I go down to the bottom floor of my dorm to get some snack in the vending machine located in a group activities room, i see two groups: 10 Koreans with their laptops playing online games and another 8 blacks just chilling. Those two groups probably spent 5 hours together in that small room every Saturday night, and I never see them communicate with each other.

I feel sorry for you ConLax. Oh well, less competition for us other applicants.

no words. So what if it is 1/3 Jewish? What harm does it do to you. I am with yousonofatfree, feel sorry for you!

Ohman is quite right - he's referring to the giant throngs of Korean kids.

The kids here aren't very hot at all - an average girl/guy somewhere else would be an 8 or 9 here.

The food at the DUC is pretty decent for campus food - trust me, it can be a lot worse in other schools.

The campus is pretty dead/inactive outside of "Normal Business hours" (class times), which includes weekends too. It is quite likely that you can walk around at 10PM and walk past NO ONE. There aren't many activities to do on campus either.

Different ethnic groups tend to stick together around here - although the Asian kids are the most extreme about it.

Getting anywhere without a car is going to suck - seriously. And MARTA does not compare to a transit system like the MTA (NYC). On the upside, being stuck on campus lets you meet people :)

This is NOT NYU - walking around with a Ramones t-shirt is not the norm, but if you shop at Abercrombie, you'll be all set.

The lovely thing about Emory is that the school's pretty big, so you can always meet new people, but not so big that you will never see anyone familiar when you walk around.

Enjoy every day of your college years. 10, 20, 30 years from now, you will likely look back and say "those were the days." Happy holidays to all.

just so everyone knows.... i am talking about the korean. just the koreans

and conlax, BU and NYU I hate. I hate the campuses so much. Emory is more like BC transplanted in the south. but emory doesn't have a southern feel whatsoever. it's like a northern school. And while the jew life is predominant, it isn't thatttttttttttt crazy

How predominant can the "jew life" be in a school like Emory ?

why do u compare nyu, bu and bc with emory? these schools arent
comparable to emory except for the fact that bc has more school spirit.

if you ever wonder why "Jews stick together", it's because intolerant people have an inferiority complex and isolate us because of it.

Jews are obnoxious, unfriendly and narcissistic?

that was completely antisemitic. It's also entirely untrue and extremely offensive.

If the two of you are current students at Emory, I'm very happy that my d did not apply ED; you are both scaring the crap out of me; such anger....Isn't there a moderator on this site? Why don't you both PM each other so the rest of us don't have to be in the middle of your ****ing match.....

Is there really this much of a division between Jews and non-Jews? The whole thing seems a bit ridiculous to me (this is coming from a person who the first time he met a Jewish person was an Emory tour guide.)

if they r jew, what r u thinking they speak?
hebrew?

I think technically, there are dozens of Jewish languages (Yiddish, Hebrew, etc.)

I'd imagine most of Emory students would speak English however.

How predominant can the "jew life" be in a school like Emory ?
Wow. where are these attitudes coming from?
first of all, the jewish population at emory is similar to that at U of Penn or most other northern or eastern schools.
there's nothing unusual about the number of jewish kids at emory except that emory is in the South.
if jews in academe bother a person, they should look for a christian and probably a different southern school.
and again: wow. these ideas are scary.

on a lighter note, the only thing I dont like is that none of the freshman dorms ( I have seen/ heard of so far) have private bathrooms. Hopefully one of the three they are building now will have some. But no big deal if they dont I would still love the school

i appreciate the shift to lighter.
anyone see what's expected in the new buildings?

ok, im very sorry to all who interpret stereotypical statements as an applicaple fact to each person within a given class. thats not what i meant at all and again im very sorry. i was merely pointing out that the isolated groups of jews that kafka was referring to are NOT isolated because of non-jews' inferiority complex (especially at a school like emory where pretty much everyone here has seen their fair share of success). i was trying to say that kafka's mentality seems to characterize a lot of the jews' (at least at emory) mentalities, which is why people don't like them and why they are isolated.

now again, this doesnt apply to all emory jews, or even a majority of them because i dont really feel like very many are that isolated. but for the ones that are, ive simply noticed that they tend to be obnoxious, unfriendly and narcissistic and i can't blame the rest of the student body for not wanting to befriend them.

noelle - The new freshmen dorms will have community bathrooms plus a certain number of single person bathrooms (sink, toilet, shower, bath) per floor, which are available to everyone.

Community bathrooms promote community, which is why they aren't building suite baths for freshmen. The bulk of the Sophomore dorms are suite baths, and they feel totally different because people aren't in the halls nearly as much. You'll be surprised how many conversations you'll have with the person in the shower stall next to you in the morning.

You can check out the public information regarding construction at the website construction.emory.edu

Also, please don't judge Emory students based on the idiotic conversation on this thread. I'm not even going to waste my time responding to any of it.
