What DON'T you like about Georgetown?

Seen this on a few other boards, it's very helpful. What are the negative aspects of Georgetown? There's so much to love about the school, but what things would you change if you could?

I have the same question but found out a few things that I've heard current students talk about:
- there is a lot of drinking - people say that there are other activities to do but a vast majority of students drink (might be a positive or negative thing to you I don't know)
- it's jesuit but students sometimes forget it's religiously affiliated
- people self-segregate by interests and form distinct separate groups like cliques

I doubt this answers your question but I hope it helps!

Really ugly campus... I mean the front lawn is ok, but once it starts sloping downwards (around the new south dorm), it really isn't pretty...

At least all the dorms have air conditioning

My biggest gripe with the school is the aloof nature of the administration, as manifested by the army of bureaucrats who actually run the school and who you will unfortunately interact with on a regular basis in your Dean's office, through the activities you're involved with, etc.

As a consequence to do anything here seems to require myriad forms, paperwork, meetings with various different people, etc. It seems like Georgetown has felt the need to parody the bureaucracy of the federal government vis a vis its location in DC. This is not something that will effect every student proportionately, but when you have to deal with these people on a regular basis it gets really annoying.

For instance the Office of Student Affairs maintains a bureaucracy of close to 90 people. What the hell are they all doing? No one knows.

I DON'T like:

-housing...it's a total pain and the system is ridiculous
-the self-entitled attitude of the rich *******s (don't get me wrong, this is not a majority of the students here) leading to hate crime-type incidents
-the administrations poor tactic in dealing with tolerance issues
-the annoying know-it-all brownnosers that ruin otherwise amazing classes
-I'll second the bureaucracy and red tape-you need a million papers to 20 different places and at least 5 signatures of unavailable people for everything from declaring a major to changing housing to studying abroad.
-The really annoying new strict party registration rules (which they actually don't enforce too strongly so it's really no big deal)

But otherwise, I love Georgetown!

A lack of green space, mostly. And the fact that whoever designed our buildings between the late 60's and the 90's hated attractive things.

The positives wayyyyy out number the negatives, though.

My gripes are:
- What Copley said.
- The new alcohol/party policy
- The Residential Judicial Council. If you get caught for something "serious" like alcohol, weed, or throwing a party, you go to your hall or apartment director and usually nothing happens. If you get a freaking noise violation, they send you to the RJC who without fail give you 3-5 work sanction hours.

I don't like the fact that there is no Metro stop. Also, the 4500 seat football stadium is incredibly pathetic. My high school's was bigger. Fellow Jesuit school Holy Cross which is in the same football conference but has half the student body of GT has a stadium that seats more than 20,000. NYC Jesuit school Fordham also in Patriot League has a 7500 seat stadium.

Patriot League Schools and stadium capacities:

Bucknell Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium 13,100
Colgate Andy Kerr Stadium 10,221
Fordham Coffey Field 7,000
Georgetown Multi-Sport Field 4,500
Holy Cross Fitton Field 23,500
Lafayette Fisher Field 13,750
Lehigh Goodman Stadium 16,000

From what I've heard, there has been many hate crimes against gays/bi/trans people. And there are too many rich kids who has nothing else better to do than drink, make an ass out of themselves, etc. But that's just what I heard and i hope that it's not true b/c I plan to go there.

Georgetown could do a much better job catering to it's LGBTQ community, however to say there's been many real hate crimes (there was one real isolated incident) or that your average gay student feels threatened or unsafe would be simply untrue. Overall the few things I dislike about Georgetown are the lack of a metro stop, which i feel stops many students from taking full advantage of being in DC. Also, I think the Core is just a little too strict and doesn't leave for enough class choice your first two years on the hilltop. But, again these are only minor gripes with the many positive things Gtown offers.
