What dorms are left?

I haven't sent in my deposit or anything yet, so will i get the crappiest dorms to choose from? I want Morewood or Newhouse probably, but will they have any spots left you think? o_o.

Will I end up in the all guys dorm?

i was wondering the same thing, I haven't sent in my deposit yet either, except I'm a girl so I'm not so worried about ending up in a all guys dorm.

im worried too....

The worst case is that you end up in an off-campus apartment (which sucks for freshmen because they have to have a meal plan involving blocks, which are impossible to spend off-campus) or worse, in temp housing (which is a hotel in Oakland). At this point it's probably likely that you'll be put in an apartment.

i sent my deposit in yesterday. so do i have a chance to get a good dorm?

lol, here (<a href="http://www.housing.cmu.edu/FirstYear/LivingMadeEasy.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.housing.cmu.edu/FirstYear/LivingMadeEasy.pdf</a>) it says:

"Few first year students are rarely assigned to houses, again, due to the high demand of returning students."

I guess that means many first year students are often assigned to houses!

You just changed the word rarely to often. That changes the whole meaning of the sentence.

i think he is pointing to the double negative in the sentence....few and rarely...

schlaggggg

lol I sent my deposit in on may 5th, maybe we'll be roomies :D

although they may have reserved sought out spaces for pwl applicants - I won't "hold my breath" though......as that really doesn't make much sense now that I think about it.

Is there any chance that I can get a dorm at either New House or Morewood E if I sent my depositt on April 30?

Is Mudge a good dorm for freshman year?

Mudge is a really good dorm for freshmen year because you have the option of retaining it. Getting into Mudge is hard as a sophomore because of this reason. You may still end up in New House or Morewood E if space becomes available and you started in Temp house... Otherwise you will probably end up in some off campus housing.

Off campus housing isn't so bad. You get so much space, and a kitchen, and you can reduce to partial meal plan and get most of your money back to spend on groceries or whatever. Best of all...I'll be out in oakland housing next year...go Webster!

Off campus housing has its benefits but it sucks to have to walk really far to get to campus...

I'm guessing the longest it would take to walk from the farthest off campus undergrad CMU-owned housing (Webster?) might be 10-12 minutes....could be less time than it takes to get across your state uni campus. Also, there is a CMU shuttle bus that runs a regular route to off-campus housing sites about every 30 min. from early morning till about 10:30 p.m. After hours there is an escort van you can call for a ride.

It never took 10-12 minutes and I am a pretty fast walker. Well depends, it might take 10-12 minutes to get to Hamburg if you power walk... Takes more like 15-20 minutes for me. Shuttle is useless if you live in webster... at least when commuting to campus... It goes from webster - all the other off campus houses - then finally to morewood. The driver said that it takes longer to get to campus on the shuttle than by walking. However, webster is one of the first stops from campus.
