I quite band for my lack of interest in it, and decided to join AcDec instead, but would you consider than an extracurricular activity? And I feel like if I do that all four years I'll seem too academic sided. I also on plan on joining key club, but that's it. I want to know what's a good amount of clubs for universities like Yale, Stanford, or Rice will take the time and consider me as a future student?

Quality > Quantity

Work on your writing before you apply to those schools…

Well, if you’re really passionate about it, why not? If you can say you’re truly passionate about a certain subject (or subjects) while in AcDec, then it’s a strong point to put on your app. But, don’t do anything just for the sake of applications.

If you don’t like an EC, it won’t matter if colleges like it because you won’t be passionate about it to get anywhere in the activity. Do something you love, have fun doing it, and the college apps will fall in line later.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was in a rush to post that.

Part of it depends on hours. I know people who love a club and even have a leadership position in said club, but at the same time it is one of those clubs that meets an hour a week and that is really all the club does. Most importantly find something/s you love, but be aware that you need hours and a clear commitment to your activities.

EC’s that don’t look like you did them just for college. Do what you love, and do it well and with dedication.

Hint: AcDec and Key Club look like you did them to get into college. What would you want to do with your life if you didn’t have to deal with college apps? Do that.

Do what you’re passionate about. That’s what they’re looking for.

There’s no one club that makes adcoms go, “OH! We MUST have this student!”

I actually feel really passionate about AcDec, I love to learn new things! I did a lot to be able to do AcDec, I had to quit something that I liked, but their was no passion for that former subject.

Hahaha I actually quit band for AcDec, and I’m so glad I did! I really love AcDec :).

As long as you show commitment and actual interest in your ECs, you’ll be fine.

I actually quit band too, I did it to join AcDec. I felt like I had more to offer, and would have a better time there than at band. I’m glad I’m not alone.

The one that you’re truley interested and involved in.
