Hi everyone. I am an 5th year undergrad student from UCB. My B.A. is applied math and so far my lowest grads for my major have been A-s.
However, last semester I tried to obtain a minor in Industrial Engineering and got a C+, a B-. and a B(in a graduate finance class), and a Pass. That semester was just really bad for me.
Anyway, after last semester, my GPA dropped from 3.7 to 3.48ish.
For letter of recommendations, I get I can get average letters since I haven't conducted any econ related research with profs.
I am interested in going into a PhD program in Econ. Given I have never taken any econ classes nor gotten involves in econ research, what kind of programs among top 50 Universities should I apply to?
I haven't taken GRE, but I think I can get almost perfect for quantity, and 400ish for verbal.(English is my 2nd language although I am not an international student.)
I am currently considering Econ PhD. programs in UCSB and UCD. What are my chances are getting into those programs?
Are there any top 20 schools I should apply to?
Thanks

well, I guess my question was just too general. The real question is: if I have no background in econ, and no paper published, only with an Applied Mathe degree what ranks of schools should I apply to?
I am female and my adviser told me my gender was going to help me if I apply to a math program. However, I am not sure if it’s true or if it works the same with econ grad school.

I’ve heard that being female will help in some Econ Ph.D. programs too. I don’t know what programs would be a good fit for you other than you’re not Top 10 material but I think you already knew that.
