What EE specializations are these schools known for? Caltech vs UC Berkelet vs UCLA vs UCSD vs UM-An

Hi! UCLA EE undergrad student here. I applying to MS EE/EECS degree for Fall 2020. I am applying to the schools listed below. I heard that UCLA is known for its signal and system (?), but not 100% sure. I am wondering what EE/EECS specializations are these schools known for:

  1. Caltech
  2. UC Berkeley
  3. UCLA
  4. UC San Diego
  5. UM-Ann Arbor
  6. UIUC

I am currently interested in VLSI, circuits, robotics, medical devices (I know… I will narrow it down…), any other suggestions for grad school would be great! Thanks in advance!

It looks to me like you are searching for graduate programs based on the undergraduate reputation of the institutions on your list. You’d be better off reading the publications around the thing(s) that interest you and figuring out where that work is being done. You also want to look into funding. Many terminal MS programs are pay as you go with no assistance. You really have the cart ahead of the horse. Decide what you want to do and then look into where you can do it.

Caltech does not accept applications for Masters programs.
It only accepts applications for students applying to PhD programs.

This is the sort of question you ought to be able to research yourself in preparation for applying to graduate school. Look at the faculty at schools of interest, what they are studying, and where they are publishing. You’ll have your answer.
