I'm a senior and really want to go to Connecticut. I decided to apply early decision because it's very high ahead of the other schools I'm applying to.

But...I don't think my test scores really will impress them at all. Standerdized testing is not a strong point for me.

SAT: 620 M, 650 V, 720 W...1990 but a huge part of that is the writing, which they probably wouldn't consider, right?
ACT: 26 (...that science part...lol)

So they're "meh" scores, I guess. I'm taking Math 1 and Literature this October...hopefully I will do well on the Lit, but Math is defintely not a strong point. I had to work my butt off for that 620. So, basically, this is a really long question, but what are some things that Conn looks at (and places a high priority on)?

well fortunately for you, conn college doesnt require the SAT 1. Their average ACT score tends to be 28-30. However, you can substitute two SAT-IIs instead of the ACT. If math isnt your strong point, you shouldnt take that one.

More importantly for Conn, they want to make sure you are a fit for the school and community. They are HUGE on community service. They like people who can provide something different and unusual. Any strange quirk. Essays are extremely important. People who are seem outgoing, friendly, independent, intellectually curious. Highly involved. People who want to make a postiive impact on their community and their world.

I guess I'm the resident Conn cheerleader/guru on this site (recent alum), so feel free to ask anything and everything at any time!

Go Camels!

yeah, i know they don't require SAT 1's...should I even bother sending my scores?

And I actually kind of got stuck taking math 1...I wanted to take world history but for some reason they weren't offering it that day :/ and everything else I would probably do much, much worse in.

Anyway, thanks for the advice :)

The general rule is, if you get higher than the median (I believe it's 2080 for last year), send your SATs. Otherwise, you may be better off not sending them. But that's just a play-safe rule since half of those who got admitted have lower scores than that. Are you planning on retaking your SAT? If you're ED-ing I don't suppose you have time for that. So my suggestion is that you don't send them.

Provided your grades look better than your SAT that is. Because not sending your SAT will just make other parts of your application (and most importantly grades here coz that correlates most with your SAT) weigh heavier in the admission process. Try to do well on SAT-IIs too, since that's the requirement.

But as huskem puts it, Conn wants to make sure they admit students who will make a good fit for the school. So all those personality stuff comes in. I think the essays are of paramount importance, so make sure you spend alot of effort on that. With that, you should have a decent shot at being admitted - especially if you ED!

i want you to know that conn treated my d1 with utmost respect and dignity in regards to the admission process...a real interview with a conn senior, a casual tour with mom, a real tour with dad ..and she was accepted...and now attends and loves it...
