Besides your GPA, what else do competitive colleges such as Ivy Leagues look for???

SAT’s and etc

10 char

Leadership. Someone who GENUINELY cares about something. Not necessarily someone who is just jumping from one thing to the next to fill in their application but someone who is immersed in something he/she in concerned about.

Passion. Ditto for much what I said about but this could be a sport or something in the arts, or something that reflects their passion for what they want to study.

World Changers/Visionaries: What do you want to do to help the world become a better place? What is your vision ?

The ability to overcome: What obstacles have you faced in your life? If you have had a privileged life, what have you done for others? What do you care about ? (see above) How will you use your lot to benefit others.

But in reality GPA and test scores go a long long way too.

I would say that other than GPA and test scores, that you should pick an extracurricular and distinguish yourself in something on a National/International level. Also, depending on where you are applying, it may help to do something that most of the other applicants will not have done so that you stand out as a valuable and rare asset to the school’s community. Good luck!

The rigor of your schedule. For a lot of colleges (especially LACs), most challenging schedules (honors, college level, accelerated, etc.) with a B+ will win over students taking regular classes with A’s. For the Ivy league, you’ll want a rigorous schedule and A’s. :)

Plus what everyone else listed. Also showing interest helps (though if you’re only talking about the Ivy league and such, most applicants will be interested, so it will not be as large a factor as other schools).
