Obviously Cornell is known for its engineering but in what other departments is Cornell known for?

I don’t know exactly, but in my personal opinion: all the CALS stuff with agriculture, biology research, and AEM (Applied Economics and Management) are all well-known. beyond that Cornell is great at tons of other stuff though, I probably just don’t hear about it.

One of the best, if not the best, hotel school in the country
Top-notch vet school
And a great hockey team I hear? :)

The undergraduate architecture program and the graduate creative writing program are in my opinion Cornell’s two crown jewels. The hotel school, vet school, several engineering disciplines, and the ILR college are all strong, with the biological sciences also recently attracting attention.

Don’t forget ILR, Ergonomics, Developmental Economics, Communication, Landscape Architecture, Astronomy, Psychology, Computer Science, Human Development, and City & Regional Planning.

Southeast Asian Studies
Nutrition Sciences,
and, of course, the Laboratory of Ornithology.

Also, the famous alma mater, “Far Above Cayuga’s Waters”, which was adapted by numerous other universities, and which is sung in the 1953 film, “Titantic” as the ship was sinking.

they also supposedly have the best food of any school. I still haven’t found it yet.

so you’re saying of all the food you’ve had, you’ve had better at other schools?

Relative to other schools, the food here is really good. don’t be so picky

thanks for the advice random person on the internet who I do not know. I am sure going to take that into consideration next time I eat at appel.

Haha. I think for cafeteria food it’s quite good.

But that doesn’t mean it’s amazing food… It still tastes like cafeteria food.

I don’t know if this is still true, but RPC Sunday brunches were amazing

compared to the dozens of other universities I visited in my undergrad years, Cornell’s food was superior. While it’s clear that Thomas Keller wasn’t the chef in charge, Cornell students are lucky that an impressive % of produce is locally grown and the variety is quite nice for a dining hall.

Thanks for all the replies :)

What isn’t it good in is the better question to ask.

I think Cornell has one of the most unique geographic terrain in the world. What campus sits between two gorges, is on top of a hill overlooking cayuga lake, and has hundreds of acres of forests for students to wander around?

It isn’t really a “department” of Cornell, but a cappella is quite rampant on campus. Just refer to Andy “the Nard Dog” Bernard of NBC’s The Office. :)

okenshields brings the quality of cornell dining down

Cornell food is great compared to other schools…but average overall.
