what else is there to proper networking besides recruiting events?

Aside from going to recruiting events, giving the recruiter your resume, adding the recruiter on linkedin, and sending a thank you letter, what else is there to do?

I mean is it really such a good idea to call up analysts and associates asking to help submit your resume? If I were in the analyst's position I'd be ****ed if some college student was calling me to help submit his resume. I mean, unless the analyst I'm calling also went through the same process of calling up other analysts to help submit his resume. Then I could see some mutual understanding. But I doubt it.

I would not ask them to submit your resume - if someone asked me that, I might say yes, but I probably wouldn’t do it. The best you can hope for is to make an impression so that the person says, I think this person will be a good fit. I suggest you do your research on the company, and call with a question that you can ask that shows that you have done your homework.
