I am focusing on getting my SAT scores to mid 700s in each section. My GPA has a strong upward trend (92 freshman year to a 99 junior year). I am a 3 season athlete and play one varsity sport. I’m on student government, tutor, and participate (when I have the chance) in my school’s service club. I’m applying for peer ministry and liturgy crew which are senior only clubs at my school. I am also applying for an internship at a hospital (applying as a chem major with plans for premed) and a job in retail. I am an out of state applicant and really want to know what else I can be doing to improve my chances as UNC is my first choice. Also, how could I start demonstrating interest in the school? I live too far away to visit and made a MyCarolina account. I would really to receive more suggestions on what I can do and how I can seem interested without being annoying or sounding “fake”.
I see people on here with super high score getting rejected so I’m assuming once I get up to around a 1450 its gonna depend on the rest of my app
OSSs are so unpredictable that once you are in the same level (stat wise, which I think you are), it all depend on your essay. There’s no specific guidelines addressing any test scores needed. But getting your score to around 1450s will be fantastic. I can tell that you are an amazing student who is well rounded. My only suggestion is to write a heck of an essay that is both unique and creative enough to show what you truly are or your passion.
Essays are very important. Also important is the depth (not necessarily breadth) of your ECs, because you don’t want to come off as doing a bunch of drive-by ECs; and the amount of involvement in your ECs is important as well, especially if you can show leadership in them. Perhaps focus on doing more in the ECs that you have, and not spreading yourself too thin.
