start on the ECs then!!..
m in india too…and i did a hell lot of comm service.

The teacher who writes your recommendation letter should be someone who taught you in high school(9-12).

Why do you need to take TOEFL if you are shooting for a 2200+?

I’m taking TOEFL because there are some schools which make it necessary for International Students to take them - I don’t want to be stuck just 'cuz of TOEFLs at any point of time.

ECs are kinda hard for me to gather up, because I’m in a dummy school, and will be moving pretty soon. I’ll participate in anything that I find, though.

^I applied to all schools you can expect an Indian applicant to apply, and I did not take the TOEFL. I had a 730 on my CR, and all my colleges waived my TOEFL requirement.

Which colleges are you referring to?

The only advice I can give you is that, try to do something unique, something different. Even though debates, music etc count, but not as much as you’d think (especially when the colleges in consideration are Ivy League schools and the likes).

A strong SAT score will not get you rejected, but won’t get you accepted either. Being an ORM applying for aid, you need to really show to the adcoms that you will be adding something to that college’s community.

Since you have almost a year to work upon your application, I’d suggest that you do some serious introspection and find what really makes you tick. One of my friends who got waitlisted at MIT (which is a pretty big deal) represented India 3 times at the World Robotics Olympiad and FIRST robotics.

Just try to work upon one single thing that’ll really make you shine instead of doing lots of small things. That’s just me; others might differ.

All the best. :)

@it’symlife99 - I agree, but I don’t know what one thing I can do! The only thing I can think of is writing something in my essays or writing something along with my essays about myself! I know what makes me tick, to a certain extent. It’s a work under progress :)

I’m planning on applying to each of the Unis that offer need-based financial aid to international students except MIT, and a few other Unis which I’ll confirm only after I finalise the financial part - with scholarsips.

Apply to the need-blind ones. MIT should be on your list

can a student get texas a&m univ. Which is best in the world for petroleum engineering with a SAT score of 2300+ with no ECs ?

I have an acquaintance who got into University of Texas, Dallas, through GRE.

sirfkartik:i guess that might for masters programme that we both will also be required to give after 5 yearz or so.both of us are exactly in the same boat and same age but jus that i want a&m.gre s are not 4 bachelors i guess…and y are u giving SAT so early, any reason please tell me.thank u and when are students required to apply 4 scholarships ?thank u

I’m giving SAT this year because I’m going to apply to the Universities this year. My 11th finals end soon, and then I prepare for SAT.

but the last months of submission are dec-jan right,or am i mistaken ? + our gpa will be calculated based on hsc marks right,or 11th ? so if its hsc then u cant apply w/o gpa, right ? please tell me whether gpa is calculated based on 11th or 12?

^ right? right? right?

Though you should make certain through your own sources, generally you don’t need to be a high school graduate to reply. You only need your final 12th class results when you get selected.

Do u mean to say that for applying u need only sat and if u are selected then u need the marksheet ? and is there any advantage in applying early compared to dec-jan? thank you

Well, the requirements for various may Unis differ. You should browse the official website.

For example, for Yale:
[Applying to Yale as an International Student | Yale College Admissions](Applying to Yale as an International Student | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions)

And Princeton:
[Princeton University | Application Checklist](http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/checklist/)

I don’t think there any advantages, except for extra time for visa prep if you get selected. And if you need extra time for your essays, take it.

Can anybody suggest some scholarships I might be able to apply for?

hey dude we will go to college in august 2012 if we are selected…so thats 12-13 months even after u get ur sat results if u go by the date u say ure appearing for sat
