hey everyone im about to send my application into princeton and i am curious about the 'what else would you like us to know' form. i know that the form is most commonly for explaining circumstances which have influenced your academic career....im just wondering how much they took this form into consideration...you see i have all the stats i guess any applicant can have going into the application process, but right before school started my mom died. the situation has had a significant effect on my senior year. my grades are a little bit lower than normal, i ended up dropping an ap class just to relieve stress, and im pretty certain my class rank will drop a couple spots from 1 out of like 500...will princeton look down on me for trying to justify the drop in performance?

I'm sorry for your loss.

I would definitely mention it. But keep it short and clear. They will understand.

I agree. That is exactly the kind of info that's appropriate to go in that space. Also, I assume your GC rec and/or teacher recs will mention the situation.

I too am deeply sorry for your loss. It must be very tough; I honestly can't even imagine it.

Of course this has affected your grades. And no one will think you are trying to somehow justify anything. Go ahead and explain what happened - your grades will only be one part of this.

omg benito, thats so sad. It definitely isn't an excuse, its a valid justification. My condolences.

That is fine to post explanatory material like that, if there is something you want to explain or clarify, but there is also another use one can make of that section. It is also another opportunity to tell thet admissions office about a side of yourself or interest not reflected in the application

My condolences

I'm sorry to hear that. I lost my mother as well some time ago. I think its quite appropriate to write such info in the provided space.

Best of luck!

Im really sorry about that benito.....

Best of luck in your apps.

Ditto Btlesgirl. Have your principal write a letter.

thanks guys for your feedback...im pretty sure my recs covered the situation and stuff....now i feel better sending the form in
