I'm a senior at a mid-level state university and my major is Political Science. My GPA is a 3.0 and I need to find a decent job for the next few years, because I am not sure yet if I want to go on to law school.

I'm worried because there aren't a lot of great jobs for Political Science grads, especially in this current recession, and I'm low on ideas. There are a few places I'd like to work, but with my low GPA, my chances are pretty bad (once again, especially in this recession).

I was thinking of maybe getting a job in government, like in the Departments of State, Justice or Defense, but those have become extremely competitive now (I tried for the Foreign Service - got rejected). I would ideally like to work in a Senator's office, but again I think my abysmal GPA is going to get in the way. :/

If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I would definitely appreciate the help.

Have you considered law enforcement? Granted, there are other factors at play for those jobs like your background and desires and fitness… but for the most part law enforcement doesn’t give a crap about GPA as long as you passed…

If you want to end up in a US Senator’s office without a great resume, you should probably start more humbly. Try the State Senate. Or something like that. Particularly if you can identify any rising stars. Think about where you might be now if you worked for Obama when he was a State Senator in 2003. Obviously politicians don’t drag their whole entourage with them whenever they move up the ladder…but I’m sure if you distinguish yourself or at least kiss a lot of ass it’ll accrue to your benefit in the long run.
