What engineering is good for making games?

Thanks for the help Nom.

I guess CE fits my interest more than EE. Hope there won't be too much programming..

There will be programming, scripting, coding. . . You name it, you'll learn it. Assembly, scheme, basic, visual basic, C, C++, C#, java, pascal, perl, fortran, cobol, sql, php, html, xml, javascript, applescript, lisp, and, of course, the venerable logo. Obviously, EE will feature prominently in your studies. The graduate student acceptance rate is lower than the accepted students' electrocution rate. Best of luck!

this guy is like a little kid. The only thing thats on his mind is the last thing he hears. Just mention a more lucrative profession and he will soon jump to another forum.

This guy strikes me as true CC material. Community College, not College Confidential. All he wants to do is make a mil a year (as described by him in another thread.)

What zerox is describing sounds like "engineering technology". I read that that is a major, in College Board's book of majors. It is basically a technician who does maintainence of machines and stuff, based on the description. Does this really exist, and is it the joke it seems?

Yes, engineering teachnology exists! It's kinda engineering lite. Engineering without advanced math. You can still get some decent jobs, mainly in manufacturing. You're not really an engineer but many call themselves engineers.

It's suprising how much I get this question from high school students. I talk to high school kids all the time about college and many say that they want to make video games. I usually tell them computer science or IT.

I wish more kids followed the videogame industry before deciding that they want to enter it. It is beyond brutal. If you don't go into management, you won't be "making" games, either. This is like telling a wannabe architect to go to a bricklaying vocational school. The harsh realities of the business sink in all too late.

Heh, I wonder if the top schools offer "engineering technology" as a major. Doubtful.

Nom, the videogame business does not pay too well nor does it have great working conditions, most of the time. Also, there is lots of competition for jobs. However, a job at a company like Bioware or Blizzard is priceless.

No I actually plan go into management right after graduation.

Right after graduation? If I'm not mistaken, most companies want some experience in a person before putting him into a management position.

Well, I'll try to have a really good GPA and have some co-op experience at wentworth.

I don't plan to go into regular engineering as I can't stand to be in a position where I'm taking orders or where I'm not the biggest fish in the room.

lol I think you should just kill yourself now instead of wasting college tuition before finding out what real life is like.

Or be a farmer.

let him do what he wants.

Wait guys, don't tell him that he can't achieve his "targeted income level" or else he will call you racist! LOL
