What engineering schools fit me?

I'm in the process of deciding which schools i really should apply to. I'm from Rhode Island, White, and i go to a public school that's fairly competive. below are my "credentials.."

i've posted this for something else too so if it looks familiar thats why.

could anyone tell me what schools i might want to look into that you think i coudl get into? i want to go engineering, and if i could get in i want to go to the school with the best academic programs and reputation.

Schedule: all of the hardest classes my school offers
(including AP Calculus, AP English, and Honors International Relations, Honors Spanish Four, Honors Physics I, etc.)

Extracurricular/Sports: Four years of Cross Country, Swimming, and Track, All-State in swimming Four years, and All-State in Track Three Years (although not quite first team yet) Captain of Swimming and Track

National Honors Society (volunteer stuff)

Math Team

Model UN

Information Technology Academy (which includes taking every tech/computer course the school offers, and takes all four years of high school to do, includes job shadowships and an internship next summer as well as relative field trips to businesses and such)

URI Sailing Club for 7 years

SK Sailing Team for 3 years

Work Experience: 1 minor summer job and the past two and a half years at a restaurant, at which i started as a busser and now cook and manage the place

Scores/Rank: 750 Math, 690 Critical reading, 670 Writing (11 on essay)
just took SAT IIs, and i expect a 800 on Math I and probably 750ish on Math II, and probably somewhere around a 700 on Spanish with Listening

Rank (this is what isn't that impressive) 16/320ish

GPA: 4.39 but our scale is weird

i think that's all the important stuff. let me know what you think.

Take a science SAT II.

What else are you looking for in terms of a school?
MIT and Caltech are the first that pop into anyone's mind for engineering.

Like kates1422 said, you need to tell us more about what you want in a school. There are lots of brand-name engineering schools, but the odds are they won't all be a good fit for you.

If you're willing to consider a great school without too much of a reputation yet (give us time, we graduate our first class in a few months) you could check out Olin in Needham, MA.

You have the credentials to look into MIT...although MIT would be a reach. Another good big reach for you would be Stanford...perhaps even Princeton.

Among more reasonable reaches and matches, look into Carnegie Mellon Cornell, Michigan-Ann Arbor, Northwestern, Rice and UIUC.

Finally, for potential safeties, check out Purdue-West Lafayette or wisconsin-Madison.

If you prefer a smaller atmosphere, check out Cooper Union, Harvey Mudd, Rice and Rose Hulman.

Forget about CalTech, they typically limit their search to people who are more academically focused than you.

Agree with kate that you will want to take a Science SAT II if you're headed to Engineering. Also agree with the others who asked what you want in a school as to size/location/atmosphere etc.

Ideas which haven't been mentioned: JHU. For match/match-safety: Lehigh, Lafayette, Tulane, Tufts.... there are so many, which is why we need to hear more about your criteria.

I also agree with kate about the SAT II..its very important for engineering. I'm applying to UPenn early for engineering..its not the best...but its definitely good...and Penn is incredible..but anyways. Take either CHem or Physics SAT II..whichever you know better. I took PHysics and I got an 800 but i knew that stuff and had just take the AP test like a month before. So study up. Either way your gonna have to know concept for inside and out for either one cause theres no calculator. I know some people that took Chem..smart kids..said it was hard. Oh and kate's right about Olin. It's the next "it" school for engineering. They are expected to do very big things and everyone is watching this first graduating class. If you can get in there your sure to have a good future in engineering.

APs are also very important...I took Physics B and got a 5, a month later, took SAT II physics and got a 680 (10 points lower than my score in January, in the middle of my AP course). Strong AP scores along with good school grades (that the OP seems to have) can compensate for lower scores in SAT IIs (if the OP gets them). This is according to the UA offices at several Ivies.
