AO plagiarism! :-w
hahaha that was def my most formal essay for the former i wrote about a bus ride, and another i wrote about my love for hip-hop.
i did think it was pompous and narrow but i made it very related to who I am as a person and i think thats what made it less cliche. i used a personal anecdote about a teacher forcing me to pick one side on a persuasive essay topic when I wanted to take arguments from both sides, and linked that into how society is forced to pick sides on the two most visible ends of the a viewpoint spectrum.
I did something similar too. I toned down the sci-fi part a bit though. :))
@ReApp2k18 are you, as your user name suggests, a re applicant for this year?
i dont recall any interesting prompts??
Deerfield’s essay prompt was the best. You have just been given the assignment to write your life story from birth until today. What will the title be and why?
Another reason why I like it more than the others was because for most schools, they limit you to 500 words. However, Deerfield limits you to 12,000 characters (far more). I ended up writing a 1,200-word long essay.
This is good fodder for college essays and beyond. Stanford MBA app asks you to do a Steve Jobs Connect the Dots essay, aka his 2005 Stanford Commencement address. The Stanford undergrad essay prompt, “What Matters Most?” is a variation on this theme as well.
Steve asserted you can’t connect the dots ahead, only looking back. He starts his story from before birth and went up to present day. These writing and thinking exercises are good practice for future essays.
@UWCSEAkid longer doesn’t necessarily mean better
My favorite essay prompt this year was that we didn’t have any!!!
Mine was when aliens attack the earth, would you rather be iron man or captain of america
and do you like the KFC original recipe wings or the extra crispy wings, I answered the original recipe, I don’t know if it is fine
Oh yes Deerfield’s life story prompt. I was tempted to name it ‘a series of unfortunate events’ then comment ‘sorry for the plagiarism, can’t be helped’ but I went against it. Slightly regret it actually, should’ve gone for it.
I loved Deerfield too! I think it was my favorite essay. My Hkiss one was so generic
