I'm goin to Cal... but if I had to decide between Irvine and Santa Barbara, I would choose Irvine in a heartbeat. I have visited both schools and despite the fact that SB is on the beach, Irvine looks better. I especially enjoyed the park (aldrich?) in the middle of the school and the sanctuary thing right next to it. There was something else that I didn't like about SB... but I can't seem to remember. However, Cal kicks those schools' butts any day!

GO BEARS!

BTW: I don't blame anyone for turning down SD... it's a science school with no social life and the location sucks... even though the beach is close... it's just too gloomy.

But UCSD is socially dead, despite it's kickass location (hope I never find the idiot who said UCSD has a bad location, I live two miles from the campus, so don't try to make a rebuttal...) And you're drunk stupid if you think UCI is better than UCSB, sure it might have higher academic throughput that UCSB, but UCI's area is a cemetary past 9 PM on any given day, UCSB is far more enjoyable.

I think the reason why - if its true - that more people reject UCSD for UCSB and not UCSD for UCI is becaues people who want to go to UCSB already have their mind set on it and not for academic reasons. Those people are looking for a UC school with a party/beach experience. Thats something UCSB has that UCSD doesnt match up to. UCI doesnt have anything like that over UCSD. So the reason is not academic at all. I know a girl with a 4.2 GPA the only school she even applied to was UCSB and she got in and she was a big party and drinking person.

I chose UCSB over UCSD for academic reasons; not for the parties (It gets old fast). From the feeling of visiting both campuses, UCSB encourages students to work together, while UCSD promotes a cut throat atmosphere. Having that friendlier environment from both professors and fellow students, makes my college experience - especially learning, more interactive and effective.

You got a point but my point was a bit more from a general perspective. i still stand by what i think but i hope u agree with me its not that UCSB necessarily has academic prestige over UCI which has to do with people (in general) turning down UCSD, assuming that is actually true.
