<p>What kind of so called "HOOKS" are there that can guarantee you a spot on top Universities? i've never seen people with really good hooks and it would be nice to see some examples.</p>

<p>hooks don't guarantee spots, they merely increase your chances a little. They include things like legacy, URM (eg. hispanics, blacks etc), and anything in your app that REALLY sets you apart from other applicants.</p>
<p>A hook is the wow factor, the dazzle, the very unique story you have to tell that hooks the adcom in and gets them to read and be awed by your story; like being stranded on a desert island but still managing to take the SAT and getting 2400!! A bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture...it is what makes you so different from everyone else applying.</p>
<p>The biggest hook by far: recruited athlete.</p>
<p>Other hooks: URM status, legacy status, being a large donor.</p>
<p>These are the only true, universal hooks.</p>
<p>Yeah... hooks are what gives your application that additional consideration. Anything could be a hook, depending on the needs of that specific college.</p>
