What exactly constitutes as "transferrable units"?

I have 200+ quarter units from a UC majoring in Chemistry. I dislike the major and want to major in Computer Science instead. I cannot switch majors at my school since I have too many units and I want to discontinue the Chemistry major. Can I transfer to another UC and major in CS at the new UC? The word "transferrable units" is not very well defined because I have fewer than 100 quarter units of "Computer Science" for sure since most of my units were for the Chemistry degree. If you only look at my math, physics, statistics, GE units which is for the "Computer Science preparation" units, I have around 100 or so. Most of my other units were chemistry coursework.

Any college level work from a UC will most likely be transferable to other UC’s. Non-transferable classes include remedial classes at CC (ie. high school level algebra and english), technical/vocational classes and some other subjects like administration of justice and business. With that many units you are ineligible to transfer to most if not all the UC’s. This page shows you the specifics.

I think you would be eligible to transfer to a CSU school.

Every course you take at any UC will transfer to any other UC. Therefore, you are most definitely in senior standing and it is doubtful any UC will consider you, but as you can see from the link posted above about 5 schools may consider seniors. Your best bet is to finish your degree and try for a Masters or PHd in Computer Science.

200 units… sounds like you are 99% (or maybe 110%) to a chemistry degree. Get your degree and come back for CS. That way, you’ve always got the BS in Chem - don’t underestimate that value of that.

Let’s say Major X exists at one UC, but Major X does not exist at another UC. Is Course X constitute as a transferable class?
