I have received a few college emails that said I am eligible for advantage application and my application fee will be waived. If I would apply using the Advantage Application and accepted into that college does that mean I would have to attend? Also what exactly is the advantage in sending in this application rather than regular decision?

Check with each of them and find out a bit more about what they mean by “Advantage Application”.

Usually it is just an earlier application that is free. Sometimes it will mean that the student is considered for certain generous scholarships that have early cut-off dates. Normally the final commitment date is the same as the date for regular decision.

It is generally a marketing ploy to increase a school’s application rate and improve their yield. Getting one does NOT necessarily mean that your chances of admission are any higher. That said, if you were planning to apply to the school anyway it helps to have a free application! Usually does not confer any other advantage although there may be exceptions. Read the fine print!

@happymomof1 I will definitely talk to admissions of each school to learn more about the application.

@Sudsie I was going to apply to two of the colleges. So I’ll just read and learn more about what the colleges say about this application.

No.

It gets them excited that some of their marketing budget is getting actual hits. And since you’re in a targeted group, you might be eligible for better scholarships/programs/enticements.
