what exactly is premed?

<p>Usually it is not a major. Medical schools generally encourage you to major in whatever you want to whether that is humanities or sciences (something you may pursue a career in if medical school does not work out). But med schools have pre requisite courses such as biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry etc that you have to have taken in order to apply. Pre med usually involves some sort of special advisor who advises you and helps recommend a schedule for completing these pre req classes. If you are a science major these classes may fall within your major and be easier to schedule. If you are a history major they will be extra classes you need to take.</p>
