I am really confused on what to put on the additional information section. I have asked some students and some have said that it is only for individuals whose grades have been affected by a tragic circumstance (death, divorce, etc). However, some of the online resources have said that it is okay to put down additional information about extracurriculars. I would get like to get a clarification on this if anyone can provide. Thank you!
It’s a spot to use as required. Most kids have nothing to add there. Don’t drop more EC info unless you have something truly hard to understand. That is, if you’re the President of the French club – don’t add more info – colleges fully understand the depth and breadth of what that would entail and don’t need your elaborations.
Now on the other hand, if you published a paper in a scientific journal for intstance-- well then place a URL or its citation in this area. Or you’re a blogger or want to give a URL for some art, etc.
Remember, don’t water down your app with needless explanations and additional (unwanted) information.
You can use it to go into unique ECs, or really an ECs that need more explanation than you can fit. Personally, I used it to explain a seminar class I am taking in 11th and 12th grade that is a rigorous independent study (this information isn’t included with my transcript, so my GC said to briefly explain it in additional info).
You could also use it to explain why you aren’t taking a certain class (maybe an unavoidable scheduling conflict prevented you), if that situation applies to you.
My advice (however, it is only my opinion) is for you to talk to your GC and see if they think your app necessitates adding info in the section.
Thanks!
