my son did an overnight at Vandy the month before the Bush Kerry election. The student body split down the middle in the Mock Election which makes Vandy a more conservative student body than many of its peers but a more liberal and diverse student body than back in my day. There were decent "rags" for various candidates and parties around campus that showed me that Vandy has some articulate debates going on among students. Google West End and Hillsboro Village restaurants in Nashville..many scores of places to eat within walking distance. Working adults are employed at Vandy and in its medical centers and they all gotta eat. There are many options for lunch and evening meals in ethnic and mainstream eateries within a stroll away that serve students and working people.

okay, this thread has died... but can anyone tell me about the science departments at vandy (particularly bio and chem)? also what are some undergraduate research opportunities? do they have summer programs or some sort of scholarship that encourages research?

I plan to double major in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering, and am possibly considering obtaining a minor in Spanish. Is Vanderbilt the #1 rated department in all 3 of these areas by US News and World Report? Because otherwise, I'm not attending...

:lol

What department of engineering is Vandy good in?
I would appreciate ur responses

I went to a public state school and all I cared about was sports and friends I knew going to the same school. But my wife, my brother and my son hopefully all went to Vandy. We have visited many schools and here are a few things we found out that make Vandy different.
Starting in fall 2008, all students will live on campus. I personally moved out to an apartment my soph. year of college and lost touch of the school. I will always remember my freshman year and all the friends I made.
Classes are small and their is a lot of interaction with the professors. Prof. also teach approx. 95% of all your classes. TA's are few and far between and usually just teach labs w. an available prof. overseeing the lab.
Most importantly you are not treated as a number. In my school, half the kids were there just to grow up, not to get an education. Thus the priorities are different for a lot of kids. At Vandy, there are interested in getting you educated with a degree in four years. There is a lot of interaction with counselors to keep you on track and figure out what is best for the student.

Austin, BioMedical Eng. is ranked in the top 20 in the country. ChemEd is closely associated with the BioMed. dept. Thus is a vary good program also.
