What exactly

does sending an ACT score to a college your junior year do? Do colleges actually become interested in you (ie mailing letters and info) or is it more of a get your name out there thing....because they will see the score again next year where i apply...

im sending it to some colleges so that i won’t have to worry about it next year when i apply to them. just saving some time on the application process, i guess. and why not do it if you get 4 free?

I’ll answer why not do it for free. If you send your score when you apply for the test, you don’t know how the test is going to be or how well you did. If your college say gets a 20, it probably won’t look to well and they “may” use that in the littlest way possible in determening if you got accepted or not even if you later send in a 30. My opinion, 9 dollars isn’t much to worry about even if you send it to 10 schools because I’d rather not tale a chance with my app and scholarship money should make up for it. I do understand what jax was saying but this is my opinion.

then again…if moneys a factor…i guess you have no choice.

Well i got a 33 so it is good I sent it to colleges, so next year i wont have to worry about sending it right?

they usually just keep the ACT score on file for whenever you decide to send an application. some larger schools DON’T keep your scores, however. I’ve heard the UC string of schools toss the score because they don’t like keeping track, while others open a file for you.

galib, i sent my awful december score to UIUC by accident. i had the same concern, that they would hold it against me next year even if i vastly improve the score. so i called the admissions office and they assured me multiple times that they only care about the highest score you submit. the rest are not held against you.

now, for april, i decided to take advantage of this by sending it to UIUC and 3 other colleges. your way might be safer, but i guess i just have a little more faith in the system than you :)

You probably will not have to send it again next year, however, I would suggest calling an admissions officer around the time you send your application to make sure they have kept it on file for you. It would be a disappointment if a problem arose from that. You should be ok though. :-)
