I’m currently prepping for the old SAT and I’m wondering what extremely controversial examples I should avoid. The only thing I can come up with is not writing about Hitler.
Also, would the Milgram Experiment be okay?
Milgram is fine–there was actually an SAT CR passage about it.
Avoid appealing to religious beliefs to back up your argument (E.g. the Bible/Quran/Torah says XYZ, therefore you should…). Of course if it’s something verifiably true (Genesis 1:1 says God created the heavens and earth), you can say that, but you probably don’t need to/shouldn’t use them in an SAT essay.
Hitler, race cards, any religious reasons, any genocides, any dictators, any criticisms regarding the world or your generation (especially if you don’t persecute yourself).
Thanks everyone.
