I've seen gre as a test requirement for schools. What about other exams such as the fundamentals of engineering exam? Is that required for grad schools?

I have not heard of any programs requiring any test other than the GRE, although I suppose it is possible that some civil engineering programs might require the FE. Even then I would be surprised - the focus of the FE/PE series is quite different than graduate study.

I’ve heard that the FE exam is sometimes required or encouraged for engineering grad school applicants who do not have a conventional ABET-accredited engineering BS degree.

Suppose that an applicant didn’t have a BS in engineering, but did have a BS degree in a related science, or in mathematics, or in engineering technology. In this case, an FE certificate might help to convince an admissions committee that the applicant is suitably prepared for engineering grad school, despite a non-traditional undergraduate background.

I’ve never heard of the FE exam as a grad school entrance requirement for those with conventional ABET engineering BS degrees.

^ I can’t imagine why a graduate school would care about whether one had an accredited eng degree. That is important for practice not necessarily for research. They can look at the courses taken.
