I’m a freshman. I don’t have any extracurricular activities. , I’m only in a couple of clubs at school one of which I am the president of. I’m debating if I should take track; I will definitely not be good enough to be recognized within the people who are doing track. Do you have any suggestions for extracurricular activities that will actually impact my college resumé? I cannot do any contact sports.
Read “How To Be A High School Superstar” by Cal Newport for interesting thoughts on ECs and college admissions. And do things you enjoy.
I’ve suggested this same thing on a number of posts but it is worth repeating. I would read Chris Peterson’s blog which is relevant for most very competitive schools. Then I would follow his advice. What are you interested in? What do you view as meaningful? Don’t try to craft a perfect applicant. Try to grow a great person. What are you curious about? What would you like to know more about? Who are the people you would like to know? Then go after it for your own sake not for some application. http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways
