What factors is the essay graded around?

Do the graders look mainly at grammar and structure or the content of the essay, or maybe a combination of both? For instance, for those that have taken AP Lang, you know the graders of the AP essays looked closely at the content of your essay (ie. historical accuracy, awareness of current events) and the quality of your argument (was the essay logical, logical fallacies, etc). Is the SAT the same way? Do they put as much weight on the arguments and examples of the essay?

There’s a strong correlation between length and score; ie. the longer your essay the more likely you’ll receive a higher score.

They spend about two minutes reading your essay looking for the following:

grammar/syntax

coherency and persuasiveness of argument

development of examples

length

Vocabulary really helps. Put a ton of good vocab in the 1st paragraph. I got 11/12 both time by using high level vocabulary. It makes you seem professional since they only read your essay about once.

Always the LOGIC!
