And in particular, does anyone know about bands at Bucknell, Colgate, Furman, Georgetown, Richmond, and William & Mary?

Furman has an oustanding music program;

My S was in the band at Colgate. It is not a “strong marching band.” It is a student run band that plays at football, hockey and a few other sports games. They 're good, they have fun, they “sort of” have a uniform. They do not do marching or very little at best.

Furman’s marching band is a joke. Its a strong CLASSICAL music school, but not a good marching band at all. And its sports stink. Bad.

Appalachian State is FAR superior to Furman, both in its School of Music and its Marching Band, and sports.

James Madison University has a huge and outstanding marching band plus a strong music department. The Marching Royal Dukes marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this past November.

Grambling State is one of the most famous

very funny nonelitist. Ahhh … did you notice that App St was not listed in the OPS choices? That said, I have seen the App St band in the stands (not a performance) and they are very big and do sound great.

Oh, and by the way, did you watch the video. Not bad for a joke.

OP asked for 1-AA schools, which App St. is

Furman is an outstanding college. My d has 4 friends there and I know two rather famous alumni. But when it comes to sports and marching bands and the School of Music, AppState trumps Furman.

FAMU, Grambling

That is a better post than to claim that another school is a joke in anything. You should have seen my original response before my better judgment took hold.
