What % get waitlisted at Stanford?

First of all, I'm pretty sure this is wrong?
Mathacle Blog: 85 admitted off waitlist at Stanford
85 seems like a really big number of students...
And then I see this:
<a href="http://colleges.**************.com/colleges/admissions/stanford_university/243744.aspx%5B/url%5D">http://colleges.**************.com/colleges/admissions/stanford_university/243744.aspx</a>
and I'm really confused.
How many people get offered the waitlist in the spring? Out of all the people who accept the waitlist, how many people actually get in?

Part of your url is censored! Ahahaah I find that really amusing for some reason.
I have no clue about waitlists, sorry :frowning:
Just focus on getting in, not getting on the waitlist, you’ll be fine :D

The use of the waitlist varies a lot from year to year, depending on the yield. Some years there are none accepted from the waitlist, and some years there are many. Last year there were 85, which was higher than usual because of a very low admit rate.

According to Stanford’s common data set:

Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 1,354

Number of wait-listed students who accepted a place on the list: 934

Number of wait-listed students admitted: 127

[Stanford University: Common Data Set 2009-2010](Stanford Common Data Set | University Communications)

This is for the class of 2013. I think 85 was the original number of students admitted from the waitlist, before more were.

For Class of 2013 at HYPSM:

Yield, Admitted, Matriculated , Acceptance Rate, School, Comments
76.5%, 2175, 1663, 7.5%, Harvard, … 127 from the waitlist
69.9%, 2427, 1696, 8%, Stanford, …127 from the waitlist
66.8%, 1958, 1307, 7.5%, Yale, …7 from the waitlist
63.9%, 1675, 1071, 10.7%, MIT, … 78 from the waitlist
58.9%, 2209, 1301, 10.1%, Princeton, …59 from the waitlist

wow… Yale admitted basically nobody off the waitlist??

For class of 2012, Stanford got nobody from the waitlist.

Well think about it, the waitlist is only there in the event that they overestimate yield for that year, if they get it perfect then they don’t have any reason to admit anybody from the waitlist. Prior to last year Stanford underestimated yield and had slightly overcrowded freshman classes.
