For students who are applying for undergraduate architecture majors, what would be acceptable stuff to put into a portfolio? I assume most students applying for architecture majors haven't had the opportunity to take an architectural drawing class, so are they just looking for sketches and stuff?

Thanks.

Anything that shows creativity. Most schools I applied for that required a portfolio emphasized that they didn't want to see technical architectural drawings. I did include however, sketches of buildings, photographs of cityscapes, etc. For the most part, include things like gesture drawings (quick sketches of people, expressions, etc.), still lifes, pretty much anything that shows talent in drawing and being creative.

Many schools offer to show off the various portfolios that got students into the program. Look into that.

You have to check the web site of each school...there are some differences published by the admissions department.

I agree. One thing that I would do now is look at the websites for all the schools you want to apply to and see what the requirments are for each specific portfolio. Many schools may have certian exercises or drawings that are required in the portfolio and looking ahead of time will be to your advantage becasue you can creat a better piece. I saw specifi drawing requirmeents at the last miniute and had to squeeze them all in...
